Michael Pilla is President and CEO of Technical Risk Underwriters (TRU), a Managing General Underwriter of Ryan Specialty Group. Michael joined Ryan Specialty Group in September 2010. TRU focuses on large construction, Power Generation, Inland Marine and D.I.C business.
Michael has over 36 years of experience in underwriting complex construction and marine lines of business. Prior to joining Ryan Specialty Group, he spent 30 years in the carrier side of the business holding senior management positions at both GRE and Liberty International Underwriters. He had a successful track record of developing large underwriting authority grants for companies such as Munich Re, QBE Insurance Company, Lloyd's of London, Chartis, and Zurich.
Throughout his career, Michael held various strategic underwriting positions such as; Chief Underwriting Officer at OnPoint Underwriting, Chief Underwriting Officer at Britt/Paulk Insurance, Construction Practice Leader North America for Liberty International Underwriters, Senior Vice President of GRE (Guardian Royal Exchange America) and VP and National Hull & Liability Product Line Leader for International Marine Underwriters (C&F).
Michael began his insurance career at W. H McGee in 1975 underwriting Commercial Hull and Marine Liabilities.
